With more than 3 million people of all ages participating, “Sporting Clays” is now one of the fastest growing sports in America.
Families are participating in the sport because it provides wholesome family fun, and it gives you hours of excitement in the fresh air.
Described as “Golf with a Shotgun,” courses are designed to simulate field shooting, and competitors are challenged to a wide variety of targets that duplicate the escape tactics of wild game. Clays “flush” like quail, hop like rabbits, and fly across the sky as fast as the swiftest waterfowl.
Tournaments draw competitors to South Florida from all over the world, and recently, many avid shooters have been moving to South Florida so they can enjoy this outdoor sport year-round in the warm sunshine.
Charities have even been getting in on the fun, with organizations like Place of Hope children’s charity, breast cancer awareness nonprofit Knotty Girl, Ronald McDonald House, and the Mark Garwood SHARE Foundation planning clay tournaments to fundraise, among others.
