Living Near the Coast Makes You Happy, Study Finds

Posted by Joe Mehling on Thursday, August 6th, 2020 at 12:07pm.

A recent study by the University of Exeter in the UK found that people who live less than a mile from the coast are 22 percent less likely to have symptoms of a mental health disorder compared to those who lived much farther away.

Is it the calm swaying of the palms or the foo-foo drinks with the umbrellas, or perhaps the clear blue color of the water that helps improve your mood?

Researchers concluded that access to “blue spaces,” or spaces by the sea or water, may play a big role in a person’s mental health. While many studies have shown that getting out into nature, even for just 20 minutes, can improve your mood, this specific finding could make a big difference in helping a person’s well-being, as well as the coastal environments themselves.

One thing Palm Beach County does not lack is “blue spaces”. Perfectly situated on the banks of the Atlantic and Intracostal, the Palm Beaches could very well be the destination you need to turn that frown upside down. Mix in a little bit of the world-renowned fine dining and entertainment and you may never leave, and we can help with that!
