Are you an inventor with a better idea to keep boaters and anglers afloat? Do you love the water and take pride in boating safety?

The BoatUS Foundation, along with the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Personal Floatation Device Manufacturers Association (PFDMA) have teamed up to find a newer design ideas with the “Innovation in Life Jacket Design Competition” A $10,000 cash award will go to the winning designer and inventors have until April 15, 2015 to submit the idea to BoatUS.

The competition is open to anyone – students, amateurs and professionals. There are no rules regarding the type of materials being used or whether the design meets any current standards. Entries can be as simple as hand-drawn imaginary designs to functioning models. The entries will be judged on dependability, wear ability, innovation and cost. “The interests in new, more comfortable designs are always important to waterway users. While current models of life jackets save lives every day, many designs still don’t appear to meet the needs of today’s boaters and some boaters remain reluctant to wear them. This competition hopes to challenge that mindset” said Chris Edmonston, BoatUS Foundation President.

Also, the BoatUS Foundation will post entries on their website and Facebook page for public voting. The top prize winner will be announced on September 2015 at The International Boat Builders Exhibition and Conference in Louisville, Kentucky for $10,000 and additional cash will be offered for second place is $3,000 and third place is $2,000.
