Leap Year 2016

February has 29 days in it every four years. This year an extra day is added to the 2016 calendar in the month of February, keeping our clocks and calendars in sync with the Earth and its seasons.

There is one particular theory that is custom and dates back to the 5th century is that on leap day would be marked for a time for  unmarried women to propose to men! The tradition is not thought to have become commonplace until the 19th Century.

Were you born on February 29? If so, you are referred to as “Leapings” or “Leapers.” In non-leap years, many leaplings choose to celebrate their birthday on either February 28 or March 1, while purists stick to February 29 for the occasion. About 4.1 million people around the world have been born on the 29th. If you are wondering what is a leap year? Read more on the history here!
