FRIENDS OF THE LOXAHATCHEE RIVER

The Loxahatchee River District, here in Jupiter, Florida has been named “Best in Nation” by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. It has been honored for excellence in wastewater recycling by the Florida Water Environment Association. In addition to serving the community, The Loxahatchee River District strives to maintain pristine habitats with water recycling efforts. Preservation of the Loxahatchee River is the District's highest priority. Educating the public is one facet in which the Loxahatchee River District reaches out to the public. One of the several nonprofit groups it supports is the Friends of the Loxahatchee.
Friends of the Loxahatchee River are a nonprofit community environmental program. Friends of the Loxahatchee River will host its monthly meeting this Friday, March 1, 2013 at noon. The meeting shall take place at the River Center, 805 North U.S. Highway 1, Jupiter. The guest speaker will be Erin McDevitt of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The discussion will be on southeast Florida coral reefs. Seating is limited. A light lunch will be served. The meeting is free and open to the public. Reservations are required. Together, the Loxahatchee River District and the Friends of the Loxahatchee River support the local Jupiter high school program through internships, special field studies, and scholarship programs. These occasions provide valuable experience for futures in environmental science related careers. The Friends of the Loxahatchee River recently presented two $1,000 environmental education scholarships. Recipients were both graduating seniors from Jupiter High School Environmental Research & Field Studies Academy program, Natalie McCrate and Jacob Loyacano.
