2.27.15 Fishing Report
Cloudy with occasional rain showers is the weather predictions for this weekend, and today winds are NW with gusts of 13 mph and as high as 18 mph according to NOAA. Strong winds are in the forecast for the weekend!
OFFSHORE- Sailfish action has remained fair over the past week as most boats put time in and were able to get a few chances. The sails were caught out of Jupiter, Florida and Palm Beach Inlets within 90’ to 200’ of water.
Alongside the sailfish, cobia are here in South Florida and moving closer to the beaches as the cold weather seems to move them in. Spot a turtle and you may see a nice size cobia swimming along with it. Within Palm beach County, you may find them on the wrecks in 15-120’ feet of water. Be prepared with your rod rig set up with at least a 1 oz. jig head with a sharp hook!
Kingfish action has been on fire, according to Juno Bait Shop, fishing early in the morning within 60’ of water off the Juno Beach Pier has been the spot and then pushing out to the 120’ ledge as the day goes on. “Drifting sardines on a knocker rig is a great way to catch the kingfish right now.”
The Dolphin bite has been decently scattered too.
INSHORE- Snook fishing has been pretty good this week as the weather has warmed up. For the snook bite, it is recommended to go slow and low, while hunkering down in the deeper holes and areas, as they are not very active and particularly lethargic. Late morning and afternoon time to throw a minnow.
The most consistent inshore fish has been the red fish and sea trout, averaging in 2-3 pounds. By throwing soft plastics, bass assassins, chicken on a chain seem to be the best colors to throw right now.
