The notorious Chicago gangster built the original home in 1923.  Capone also took the name of Al Brown and lived in a tiny home in West Jupiter off Italian Farms Road (now Jupiter Farms Road).  West Jupiter and West Palatka were the moonshine capitals of the world when Capone was in Jupiter.  Capone preferred spending time in Miami, near the action and the beach.  The Chicago mob boss moved south to Miami in 1928 and acquired a beachfront home.  Capone died in South Florida in 1947.

Why do we have a leap year every four years? A leap year is when an extra day is added to the end of February every four years. It all comes down to the solar system's discrepancy with the Gregorian calendar.

What do you do if you were born on February 29th.The chances of having a leap birthday are one in 1,461. It is suggested if you were born in the am, celebrate annually on February 28.  If you were born in the afternoon, celebrate on March 1.  However, if you are a true “leaper” you should only celebrate every four years, which at a certain age becomes very advantageous!

South Florida is known for sunshine, beaches and sun kissed oranges. Will another fruit outshine the oranges?   Christopher Columbus brought the first citrus saplings to the “new world”.  Early Spanish explores, quite possibly Ponce de Leon himself, planted the first orange vegetation in St. Augustine. This legacy has blossomed into $9 billion dollar industry. The sunshine state produces more oranges than any other region in the world.

Years ago, “u-pick” orange groves were all over the state. Now they are few and far between. There is nothing is more refreshing than the scent of orange blossoms.  The wonders of a beautiful sunlight grove bursting with bright colors of blue sky, green citrus trees and abundant oranges are impressive.

There is something for everyone at the Florida Oceanographic Society, from young to “young at heart”.  Take a scenic ride from the Jupiter area to Hutchison Island in Stuart, FL and see the 57-acre nature center.  The nature center is positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River.

This year at the Martin County Fair the Florida Oceanographic Society presented hands-on demonstrations with sharks, stingrays, turtles, oysters and more.   If you did not have an opportunity to get out seeing the exhibit at the Martin County Fair visit the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center and feed the resident stingrays, explore the “touch tank” and closely observe a feeding frenzy in the 750,000 gallon “Gamefish Lagoon”.

On sporting clays course shooters are presented with a wide variety of targets that duplicate the flight path of birds, such as flushing, crossing, incoming and other angling shots.”
