West Palm Beach dancer and Alexander W. Dreyfoos High School of the Arts alumni Darius Hickman has made it as one of the top 4 finalists on the popular TV competition So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD).

As an aspiring professional dancer and now TV star, Hickman has worked extremely hard to make it this far. He began serious training in ballet and contemporary dance at BAK Middle School of the Arts in 8th grade, and fine-tuned his talent at the Florida School for Dance Education (FDSE) in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida after school. His discipline and refinement earned him acceptance into Palm Beach County’s prestigious Dreyfoos High School of the Arts, and he went on to be a Young Arts finalist as well as won 1st place for his contemporary work at

All of the supplies and monetary donations were evenly distributed to three Title 1 elementary schools in the county, where more than 90 percent of those students' families are low income.

The Boxed for Success School Supply Drive, which ended just before school started a

The Kravis Center for Performing Arts is more than just a gorgeous performing arts venue- the Palm Beach County landmark is a non-profit committed to enriching the lives of students and educators in South Florida by providing engaging and enlightening arts education programs. In fact, since opening in 1992, the Kravis Center has provided access to the performing arts for about 2.3 million schoolchildren.

You may ask how this improves our youth in the community, and while as an Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts alumni I may want to say “It just does”, there are actually studies to prove it. According to Princeton, integrating the arts into school curriculum improves academic performance and student discipline, while it also revitalizes
