Now that the kids have started back to school, does it mean that summer is officially over?  What if you don’t have children at home?  The weather in South Florida is begging for locals to come out and play.  Tranquil, tropical breezes off the Atlantic Ocean whisper invitations for you to get outside and enjoy the climate.  This time of year is an opportune time to enjoy local fun spots for quick weekend activities.

Just a drive away, in the Town of Islamorada, is the Theater of the Sea.  This is a marine life facility which is home to lots of marine life, exotic fish, sea turtles, colorful parrots, crocodiles, and exotic plants and orchids.  Here you can swim with stingrays, sea lions, or dolphins in one of their three twelve million gallon salt water lagoons.   Advance registration is required. For more information, visit www.theaterofthesea.com.  With any luck maybe you will kiss the dolphin!

In Jupiter, the MacArthur Park Nature Center offers Saturday morning, 10:00am – noon, guided snorkeling tours of near shore reefs.  You must be an experienced swimmer and bring your own snorkel, mask, and fins.  There are age restrictions and no lifeguard on duty.  Reservations are required so please call the Nature Center at 561-624-6952.

If getting soaking wet isn’t your idea of fun…how about a guided walking tour?  Learn about the unbelievable environment we live in here on the Indian River Lagoon.  If you dare, and can keep a steady balance, try paddle boarding or kayaking with a friendly manatee or sea turtle off Blowing Rocks Preserve. Watch Ibis and Egret in their natural habitat as they swoop and chase schooling fish.  The sparkling blue waters of Blowing Rocks Preserve will remind of how lucky you are to live in paradise!  Call for reservations at 561-746-6691.
