The Palm Beach Opera

The Palm Beach Opera season will begin mid-January and end in early April on Mainstage Opera at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach.  Three world class productions are planned for the 2013 season.  

“La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi is the tale of a glamorous courtesan who falls in love with a young heir of a notable family and gives up her extravagant lifestyle to be with him but their happiness is short lived.  

“La Cenerentola” by Gioachino Rossini is a somewhat traditional Cinderalla story.  Cinderella is mistreated by her dysfunctional family; luckily she meets and falls in love with the handsome prince.

“Salome” by Richard Strauss is a biblical story brought to life with seductive music

Bluewater Babes Fishing Tournament Grand Slam Tackle & Marine Center and The Square Grouper Tiki Bar of Jupiter, Florida present the 4th annual “Bluewater Babes Fish For A Cure”. This fundraising event is scheduled for October 5th and 6th  and with a kickoff party this evening, Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Square Grouper Tiki Bar.  This is a women’s fishing tournament which raises money for two local charities:  H.O.W. Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper ( www.ovariancancerpbc.org/) and Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope (www.cahh.org/).

The local favorite fundraiser is an enjoyable combination of fishing, creative boat decorating, and costume contests for participants. The fishing is followed by an awards

The Green Market

Colorful orchids hang over head, bursts of sunflowers, yards of fruits and vegetables line the streets, the Intracoastal glistens in the backdrop and local music fills the air. Who new that adventures in a different country were closer than Disney World? For those of you who live in Jupiter, you may be surprised to learn that just over 55 nautical miles to the east is West End in the Bahamas. It is a popular trip for local Jupiter boaters and fisherman, since it only takes a couple of hours to get there.

The West Palm Beach Library

On May 2, the West Palm Beach Library Foundation hosted an unbelievably successful gala. The gala was held at the Mandel Public Library in West Palm Beach to honor Barbara and Morton Mandel. The Mandel Foundation recently donated $5 million to rear the library system and kick-start its new programs. 

The theme of the gala was “Imagine.” Teams of volunteers worked together to convert the library into a wonderland. The children’s area of the library was transformed into the dining room, where the tables were lined with pages from used books and donned handcrafted centerpieces. 150 guests enjoyed a three-course dinner catered by Sandy James Fine Foods, and the Wine Trade Inc. donated the wines for the evening.
