CityPlace Set To Undergo Renovations

Within the next several months, CityPlace in West Palm Beach will undergo renovations to update the 18-year-old outdoor entertainment and shopping center. The Mediterranean style venue will begin its transformation to a more comfortable, flexible design with more plants and vegetation.

The plans which call for the city’s approval include plant filled trellises, walkways covered by large shade sails, a curb-less Rosemary Avenue to slow and narrow the traffic. The plans also call for buildings to be covered in vines, pavers mixed with patches of greenery, outdoor seating, a new fountain and an interactive splash zone for kids. The stage in the center of the popular shopping destination will be removed to allow for more public space to hold activities, outdoor markets, and events.

CityPlace is an outdoor shopping and entertainment center in downtown West Palm Beach. Besides the restaurants and shopping, CityPlace also includes rental apartments, condos and office space. Some of the tenants in CityPlace include Restoration Hardware, Sephora, Tommy Bahama, AMC Movie Theater, Brio Tuscan Grille, City Pizza, LA Fitness, Culture Lab, Ruth Chris Steakhouse and more.

The renovations are planned because of the way downtown West Palm Beach is changing. Downtown is becoming a more vibrant place because of the new additions to the area with the new high-speed train, flagship RH Gallery store, and the new Hilton Hotel and Convention Center. The plans also call for the city to add more street lighting along Rosemary Avenue and areas north of CityPlace.

Work is currently underway on another project to connect CityPlace to downtown. A new ‘road tattoo’ will stretch along Rosemary Avenue from Okeechobee Boulevard to 11th Street, making it the longest continuous road tattoo in the world. Starting in June on Clematis Street, the city will add more trees, widen sidewalks for more outdoor dining and walking, and will be removing the curbs similar to CityPlace’s plan.

If the new project is approved by the city, the renovations for CityPlace will start within the next two months. Click here to read more.
