Palm Beach County residents and visitors may observe Veterans Day on Friday, November 11, 2022. Veterans Day is a United States federal holiday that honors all military veterans who have served in the U.S. military. The holiday corresponds with Remembrance Day and Armistice Day. It marks the anniversary of the end of World War I which ended on November 11th. The hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect

Veterans Day celebrates the service of all US military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who have died while in military service. Pay tribute to the veterans and their families that volunteered to protect our great country. Here

Get ready for the Tequesta Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, November 12, 2022, between 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. The 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Beer Tasting Event is a huge celebration for the veterans who volunteered their service to protect the United States! There are 32 chili teams participating.  The teams represent public safety, military, and private organizations.  The chili teams will compete to win the prize for the best chili and bragging rights!  

The day is action-packed, proud to be an American tribute to our veterans. Palm Beach County’s Norton Museum of Art is presenting Joseph Stella’s Visionary Nature: A Discussion with the Curators on November 19, 2022, beginning at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM. Joseph Stella: Visionary Nature is co-organized by Stephanie Heydt of the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, and Audrey Lewis of the Brandywine River Museum of Art. Both curators join Ellen Roberts, Harold and Anne Berkley Smith Senior Curator of American Art, for a discussion about the exhibition, the first major museum examination of Joseph Stella’s art that depicts the natural world.

The skies in Stuart will be thundering with jets and stunt planes November 12 - 14, 2022. The Stuart Air Show highlights the significance of aviation and the service of Veterans. It also provides hundreds of opportunities to schools and school-age children to learn about aviation, American history, and the Armed Forces. The air show is a three-day event featuring thrilling performances by nationally known performers as well as interesting and historical static displays of aircraft and vehicles. The Stuart Air Show takes place at Witham Field, 1895 Flying Fortress Lane, Stuart.

Alton Pride is excited to announce its First Annual Pride Thanksgiving Food Drive Competition! Alton Town Center is in Palm Beach Gardens. It is a community in which homeowners can bike ride, drive, or walk to enjoy dining, retail, and entertainment. Alton’s parks and green spaces are designed for the entire family. The new homes incorporate energy-efficient features, bold designs, and healthy-home specifications.

Alton area bars are competing for the title of “Top Turkey,” a trophy and bragging rights. Until November 12, 2022, participants will be collecting non-perishable food items for Thanksgiving. The business with the most donations will be crowned the winner a/k/a “Top Turkey.”

Many Southeast Floridians have a lot of confusion about Daylight Savings Time. Daylight Saving Time officially ended at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November the 6, 2022. For decades, shifting the clocks during the months that have the most sunlight was promoted to save energy.

Millions of Americans want to abandon daylight saving time each year. It disrupts our circadian rhythms and creates confusion. More than a third of U.S. states now back a permanent shift to daylight saving time. If that happens, it would be a final victory for a plan that businesses have praised for more than one hundred years.

The presidential elections are huge news internationally every four years. Today are the midterm elections. Midterm elections come nearly two years into a president’s term and can have just as big an impact on the direction of the country. It is an opportunity for Palm Beach County residents to be “heard” by their vote.

Much of the attention of midterm elections is focused on the two chambers of Congress: the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives.

Members of the House are elected for two-year terms, so all 435 seats are decided during the midterm elections.

Senators are elected to staggered six-year terms. A third of the one hundred seats are up for grabs in any midterm election.

Please be aware that Palm Beach County is currently under a Hurricane Watch. Sub-Tropical Storm Nichole is currently located East of the Bahamas. Currently, it is forecast to become a category 1 hurricane and hit the West Palm Beach area. Tropical storm force winds are expected in this area as early as Wednesday morning. 

Please prepare your home for a possible landfall or near miss in this area.  Evaluate what aspects of your property need to be prepared for this storm.  Pay particular attention to umbrellas, fabric canopies/awnings, loose furniture/personal items on porches/lanais and pool decks, drainage, etc.

Alton Town Center 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive in Partnership with Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches, Inc.  Please help by donating non-perishable food items to help feed families in our community during this holiday season. Donations will be accepted until November 13, 2022. 

Since 1983, Adopt-A-Family decided that its mission is to strengthen families with children in their efforts to achieve stability and self-sufficiency by providing access to all-encompassing services.  Adopt-A-Family has grown into the largest service provider for homeless families in Palm Beach County - providing access to services for more than 2,000 families with children per year.
