Governor DeSantis has given the green light for youth activities to reopen, including summer camps. But because the Palm Beach County School District and the City of Boca Raton have cut their summer camp options, others are expanding their offers to keep up with demand.

So far, YMCAs and other organizations have done just that. There are a number of camps in South Florida, and Palm Beach County especially, that have announced they will open this Summer with certain restrictions and rules in place to help keep your kids safe. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum announced last week that it will begin to reopen and allow visitors to start climbing the lighthouse tower steps this Saturday, May 30th.

Guests can also start to enjoy the historic grounds, climbing the 1860’s lighthouse tower 105 steps and visit the lighthouse gift shop. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is opening in a few phases.

The reopening this Saturday is part of Phase One. The Lighthouse and Museum will have limited hours and limited days. The hours of operation are Thursday through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm with the last grounds admission being at 3 pm.

While the state of Florida is moving as fast as it can toward full re-opening, we still need to keep in mind all of the essential CDC guidelines. The governor’s office released the following reminders. Noting that, we must bear in mind that, as Floridians, we are all in this together and we have a responsibility to continue practicing mitigation measures.

These general mitigation guidelines are minimum recommended health protocols and are designed to be utilized at every phase of re-opening.

  • Practice social distancing, as the virus is most transmissible indoors under close, sustained contact. If you are around other people, try to maintain 6 feet of separation.

On the heels of last week's charity golf event that saw Dustin Johnson, Rory Mcllroy, Rickie Fowler, and Mathew Wolff raise over $5 million dollars for Coronavirus relief efforts, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson took to the golf course Sunday to do the same, and they brought some friends with them. 

Joined by Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and retired NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, the four took to the links at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound and raised $20 million for COVID-19 charities. 

While Tiger and Peyton defeated Mickelson and Brady 1-up to win the match, the real winners were not just the fans at home who got to watch live golf for the second straight week, but also all the charities that will benefit from the money raised.

All sandbars, islands, and shorelines in Palm Beach County will be closed for Memorial Day weekend, including Beer Cann Island and sandbar, Peanut Island and sandbar, Munyon Islands, and Jupiter and Tequesta sandbars, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Rafting and flotillas, as well as tying, roping of boats to each other is prohibited. This includes all boats, kayakers and paddle boarders.

The sheriff's office said that vessels may anchor in deep water and must be 50-feet apart from each other.

Violations of the Emergency Order can result in civil fine, arrest and seizure of assets.

Beaches on Singer Island will reopen on Tuesday.

During an emergency meeting, the Riviera Beach City Council voted 7-1 to reopen beaches starting around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The decision comes just one day after beaches throughout Palm Beach County were allowed to reopen after being closed for nearly two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, some communities have restrictions when it comes to beach access.

Boca Raton's beaches are open, but beach parking lots remain closed and parking is prohibited along A1A.

In Delray Beach, you can only walk, jog, and swim at the beach. No surfing or sunbathing is allowed.

In Martin County, officials said beaches will now be open to anyone, not just county residents. In addition, Hobe

Governor Ron DeSantis made the announcement this morning that effective immediately, state officials will end restrictions on youth activities, which includes summer camps and youth sports in Florida.

He said while the state is lifting restrictions, local governments can make their own restrictions, if they desire.

Distance learning was initially put in place, the governor said, because it was believed children could spread the disease to others.

"I think what we've seen is that is not how it's working out now," he said. "Kids are not immune from this. Some kids have been infected and some kids have been critically ill. There have been some, not a lot, in the United States that have died."
