On November 17th, The Jupiter Lighthouse is hosting their annual twilight fundraiser, Rendezvous at the Light, 6-9:30 PM.

Join WPTV Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle for a delightful fundraiser in a truly unique setting overlooking the Jupiter Intracoastal from the grounds of the locally treasured Jupiter Lighthouse. Guests will enjoy delectable food and refreshments, as well as a silent auction and an open bar.

All proceeds benefit the Loxahatchee River Historical Society, a 501c3 non-profit organization Keep The Light Shining.

TICKETS: $75 per person, $700 for 10 people

Three-time Emmy Award winner and wildlife advocate Jeff Corwin will be the keynote speaker at the Tenth Annual Go Blue Awards Luncheon.

“Go Blue” recognizes businesses, non-profits, and individuals who have promoted, implemented, or contributed to improve and protect our oceans, beaches, and wildlife.

The luncheon will take place on Friday, October 26th at 11:00 AM at the Kravis Center for Performing Arts in Downtown West Palm Beach, and tickets are $95 until October 13th.

The iconic PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, home to the famous Honda Classic and a choice tourism spot, is under contract with the Canadian company Brookfield Asset Management. The resort was last sold to Walton Street Capital for $170 million in 2006 and went up for sale again this June.

PGA features 339 hotel rooms, five 18-hole gold courses, and a 40,000-square-foot spa. Brookfield is purchasing the resort for $255 million, which works out to $752,212 per hotel room. If the contract goes through, PGA can expect some nice upgrades, as Brookfield makes investments in properties they plan to improve, keeping them for the long-term, unlike Walton Street.

Dolphin and blackfin tuna have been the most common catches this week, with the usual trolling with ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid between 500’ and 1000’ around large weedlines for your best chance at putting some mahi filets on the table. Trolling with small feathers around 300’ during cooler times of the day like morning and late afternoon is your best chance at tuna. As usual, kingfish are scattered around the 120’ ledge. Jupiter’s beloved local landmark, the Jupiter Lighthouse, was authorized by Congress to be built in 1853, and construction of the tower was completed in May of 1860, with the official lighting commenced on July 10th, 1860. From 1860 to 1939, more than 70 different keepers maintained this 108-foot lighthouse, until the civilian lighthouse service merged with the United States Coast Guard in 1939. Military personnel remained its keepers until it was automated in 1987. The Jupiter Lighthouse remains a treasured local landmark and an active Aid to Navigation, with 1 of only 13 active 1st Order Fresnel lenses in the entire United States!

Loggerhead Marinelife Center(LMC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit education and ocean conservation facility located on the Atlantic Ocean in Juno Beach and is one of the most treasured organizations in Florida. The facility focuses on sea turtle rehabilitation and houses a variety of exhibits including live sea turtles and other coastal creatures. Exhibits include a massive prehistoric Archelon sea turtle replica, salt water aquaria and displays of local wildlife, as well as educational displays about South Florida’s marine environment.
