  Palm Beach County and Loggerhead Marinelife Center have collaborated to ban balloons from 11 local beachfront parks in an effort to help keep sea turtles safe. Afterall, this area is a haven for sea turtles to nest, particularly for the endangered Loggerhead. As we are in the middle of nesting season, the ban is just in time. Loggerhead Marinelife Center teams have cleaned more than 1,000 balloons off of Juno Beach alone. Balloons are dangerous to sea turtles because they can be mistaken for a jellyfish- the Loggerhead's favorite snack. The balloon strings can also entangle the turtles.      Loggerhead Marinelife Center has teamed up with precincts spanning across 130 miles of the south Florida coastline to ban balloons. The beloved local performing arts theater, The Maltz Theatre, located just a few hundred feet from the beach in Jupiter is upgrading itself. Matltz has been in Jupiter around for decades and its new plans for an expansion to its campus will greatly improve it. 

The proposal for the $25-$30 million expansion to the theatre was approved by Jupiter Town Council last October. The expansion project includes details like a much bigger stage and conservatory that will be twice the size they currently are. Join Carlin Park this Saturday August 26th, in Jupiter for the 3rd Annual Hang 20 Surf Dog Classic!

This family friendly event will be filled with food, kids’ activities, vendors, live music and surfing dogs. This community favorite event had over 2000 attendees last year and this year they are hoping to exceed that number.

The surfing event consists of four groups arranged by the dogs size: small, medium, large and SUP, which stands for stand-up surfboard.

Did you know that a group of British aviators landed their planes in Jupiter? They were allies with the United States and practiced water landings and takeoffs on Jupiter’s waterways the winter of 1916-1917.  The 3 small, single engine bi-winged seaplanes were obvious Allied Planes of World War I. They were painted with traditional motifs used at the time: wide vertical red, white and blue stripes on the rudder and circular targets on the wings. 

They were men were lodged at the local, Jupiter hotel, The Carlin House. Carlin White met his wife in the Town of Jupiter, they eloped in 1905 and in 1907 had a baby boy they named him Carlin. The Lighthouse in Jupiter is hosting a Sunset Tour event to take in the wonderful views and sunset reflecting off the town and ocean.

The event is scheduled to take place Wednesday August 23rd, 2017 around 7:15 pm, weather permitting. During the tour, visitors will get to climb the stairs and take a look inside the Lighthouse’s watch room with a chance to see the light turn on and to experience how everything works.

The tour is approximately an hour and 15 minutes long. Tickets and reservations are required to reserve your spot. The tickets are $15 dollars for members and $20 dollars for non-members. Children are welcomed and must be at least 48" to climb the Lighthouse tower.
