10.31.14 Fishing Report

For the thrill of Halloween weekend, it seems the fishing will be facing a trick instead of a treat. Not just one, but two cold fronts will affect our fishing forecast. The first cold front is moving in on Friday (Halloween) night and then a second on Saturday, with strong winds making the ocean rough for anglers.

OFFSHORE-
The ocean will be very rough this weekend, but if you are able to sneak through the winds, you may scout a sailfish as the rough conditions are perfect for them and will most likely see dolphin as well. Cobia made a nice display this past week along the edge and around wrecks. Snapper fishing has remained very good out of Palm Beach and Jupiter Inlets too.

INSHORE/SURF/PIER-

Daylight Savings Time (DST) is this weekend, which means we get an extra hour of sleep this Sunday morning.  Plan on turning your clocks back an hour at 2:00am, Sunday, November 2, 2014.  Most smartphones, computers and cable television box connections will do this automatically.

This will mark the beginning of Standard Time.  Standard time means we will have one less hour of daylight in the evening for the next four months through March 8. The days will lengthen and transition back to Daylight Savings Time in the spring. 

If you get confused, remember the phrase “spring forward, fall back”.

Is there a more of an amusing way to thrill the weekend than it being Halloween?

Performances, scary movies, drink specials and frightening or maybe even goofy costumes! Even if you have not prepared any plans for Friday night yet, there is no excuse to stay home-base with the porch lights off and mope around street corners watching the carnival of people pass by. The Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach County have plenty of fun and entertaining events that don’t need reservations, plus some parties have chances to win cash prizes!

Cato’s Beach Bridge, as the locals know it, is a sandy white shoreline, near the Jupiter Lighthouse, and just north of the bridge, is quite possibly one of the most outstanding natural areas in the state.  Located along the west side of the Intracoastal Waterway and south of the Jupiter Inlet Bridge, this “swimming hole” stays crystal clear all day!

We all are very grateful to live in Florida. However, many fishermen go into a predictable routine of only fishing out of their home town. 10.24.14 Fishing Report

The ocean forecast is in the midst of changing seasons, it has been a little wet and windy out there. The fish are used to being wet so it doesn’t affect them, but the north winds should help them get a little feisty for dinner!

OFFSHORE-

The Dolphin bite has been around in fair numbers all year and is being found closer in about 600-800 feet, which is about 5 miles offshore in the Southeast Region of Florida. As normal, always look for floating debris and around the weed lines for these colorful predators. Trolling with artificial lures and ballyhoos are the best ways lately and may also spark the interest of a blackfin tuna too! While the Blackfin tuna are not around in large amounts, an occasional wahoo could be hanging
