All Aboard Florida

All Aboard Florida is an innovative, new concept in railroads and it’s coming to us here in south Florida! The All Aboard Florida system is a private, high-speed train set up to run along the east coast of Florida from Miami to Orlando. The train will complete its trip from Miami to Orlando in less than three hours and will have stops in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

The former exec ran hotel operations for all of Disney Orlando Resorts as well as contributed to the Hong Kong and Paris Disney locations. Some of the biggest names in local golf will be among the sponsors of this year’s Palm Beach County Golf Association season of amateur events. 2013 will mark the 38th season of PBCGA Events that take place at some of the best golf courses and clubs in the county.

The season will kick off this weekend with the Spring Four-Ball event at the Fountains Country Club’s North Course in Lake Worth. There will be 25 events in total and the season will go through the middle of November. Some of the events featured will either be hosted or sponsored by local professional golfers.

Local golfers Tiger Woods, Keegan Bradley, and Rickie Fowler will all be taking advantage of their off week by competing in Medalist Golf Club’s Member-Guest tournament in Hobe Sound.

A Jupiter Island Resident and Medalist Club member, Woods will pair with Golf Channel host Ahmad Rashad. The two will face off against Hall of Fame basketball player and Jupiter resident Michael Jordan and his guest, Tequesta resident and PGA tour pro Keegan Bradley.

Also participating in the tournament is defending member-guest tournament champion Rickie Fowler. The Loxahatchee River Resident will once again pair up with his business manager Sam McNaughton, with whom he won last year’s trophy. Keep Our Beaches Clean!
GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO DO A GOOD DEED!  It is time for the monthly beach clean-up…Please join Lynne Wells and her group of Blue Friends Society on Saturday, March 16th, 2013 at 8:00am – 9:00am at the back gate of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center.  This is a perfect opportunity to keep our beautiful Juno beaches and ocean environments clean.  The clean-up lasts one hour and it is open to everyone who is interested.  Following the one hour clean up, volunteers are invited to join for a light refreshments sponsored by Whole Foods Market in Palm Beach Gardens. Please help keep the beach that the turtles call “home” free from liter and debris.

For the third consecutive year, Els for Autism will host its golf challenge at 21 golf courses in the United States and Canada. The super-regional events will take place from April through September.

Teams will be playing for their “Honorary Captain”, a child on the autism spectrum who they play and fundraise in honor of. A team’s fundraising ability is valued as much as their performance on the course. Teams will compete for a selection of first class Regional prizes and all groups raising at least $13,000 will enjoy a two-day extravaganza of golf and entertainment in Las Vegas hosted by Ernie and his wife Liezel in October.

Burt Reynolds to be Honored in Jupiter!

On the commemoration of the playhouses 60th anniversary, Burt Reynolds returned to the stage where his acting career began.  He was just a college student when he started acting in plays, which included performances at the historic playhouse on Lake Avenue in Lake Worth.
 
The stage of the historic Lake Worth Playhouse was transformed into a formal dining room on Saturday, February 9, 2013 for the diamond jubilee anniversary. Sitting at the head of the table, happily entertaining guests was Palm Beach County resident and entertainment legend Burt Reynolds.

Tiger Woods fought off a star studded field for four days to win the World Golf Championship-Cadillac Championship at Doral. The Jupiter Island Resident went wire-to-wire, shooting 19 under par in the four day event to win by two strokes. The win was Woods’ 76th of his career on the PGA tour and now puts him six wins behind Sam Snead for the all-time record.

It was more than just another win for Woods, who now has two tour wins this season. His play was reminiscent of the Tiger of the mid 2000s and his putting was some of the best of his career. He fought off a leaderboard Sunday that featured some of the best players in the world, including Phil Mickelson and Tiger’s weekend playing partner Graeme McDowell.

It is almost springtime, and since 1918, it is that time of year when we lose that one hour of sleep. 

Daylight Savings Time kicks in this weekend on SUNDAY, MARCH 10th, 2013 at 2:00am.

It sounds so cheery and uplifting, “spring forward”,  but why is everyone so irritable?  It is only one little hour.  Did you know that Hawaii does not observe Daylight Savings Time?  Nor does every part of Arizona – the Navajo Nation does not observe daylight savings time.  U.S. overseas territories of Puerto Rico, America Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands also do not observe daylight savings time.

You could just blame it on Benjamin Franklin.  He suggested it back in 1784 in an effort to save on candles.   It wasn't until 1918
