This week some of golf’s biggest and best names congregate in beautiful Palm Beach Gardens for the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic. The Champion’s Course at PGA National will host the event for the seventh consecutive year. Local golfers such as Tiger Woods (Jupiter Island), Rory Mcllroy (Palm Beach Gardens), Keegan Bradley (Tequesta), and Dustin Johnson (Loxahatchee River) will join the star studded field that include some of the top players in the world. The tournament itself runs from Thursday to Sunday but there are great events taking place at PGA National all week. Here is a list of events that will be taking place this week.

    Round one was pushed back a day due to a freak snow storm and it didn’t get much better for some of the top local golfers after play resumed on Thursday.

    After Wednesday’s weather transformed Dove Mountain from a golf course to a winter wonderland full of snow and ice, golfers returned Thursday to either finish or start their first round matchups in the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship. Just like they did the day before, they waited around for hours on Thursday as they waited for conditions to become favorable enough to play as well as course staff to finish shoveling snow off of most of the fairways and greens.     Attention, Jupiter anglers...pick up the latest in fishing strategies and techniques, as well as ideal locations, learn tides, moon phases, and the “how to” of catching any salt water game fish.  The educational course is the longest running course in the nation and will take place at the Jupiter High School Performing Arts Center, 500 North Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33477  from 9am – 4pm on March 2nd.

    The seminar is now in its 26th year with Jupiter as its final destination.  The series began its eight coastal city tour with a stop in Atlantic City, NJ, Brookville, NY, Virginia Beach, VA, Wilmington, NC, Providence, RI, Charleston, SC, and Biloxi, MI.

    A stretch of three tournaments in three weeks for local PGA Tour pros Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllory begins on Wednesday with the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship. The bracket style heads up tournament is being held at the Dove Mountain Golf Club in Marana, Arizona and will feature the top 64 professional golfers in the World.
     
    Broken into four brackets, it is set up the exact same way as the NCAA Basketball Tournament with each bracket being broken down into 1-16 seeds. The tournament features eight of the top local golfers spread out throughout the star studded field. Below you will find a breakdown of seeding, opening round matchups, and previous results.

    The Maltz Theatre in Jupiter

    The Maltz Jupiter Theatre, located in Jupiter, Florida, is now celebrating its 10th season as a not-for-profit professional theatre.  The theatre continues to be committed to maintain its distinguished status as the state’s largest award winning regional theatre with collaborations with local and national artists. 

    The talented troop will be performing a lighthearted musical entitled “THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE”.   If you are looking for a high-spirited show, full of intrigue, this is the musical for you!  The production won six Tony Awards in 2002, including best musical.  It tells the story of a small town girl who comes to New York City in the roaring 1920’s to marry for money instead of love.

    For the next month, the city of Jupiter, Florida will be home to hundreds of professional athletes and thousands of fans. They will all flood the community of Abacoa to see their favorite Major League Baseball teams and players train and prepare for the upcoming 2013 season.

    Spring training home of the Miami Marlins and St Louis Cardinals, Roger Dean Stadium has hosted the two teams as well as their minor league counterparts since 1998 and starting Saturday will host some of the biggest stars and teams in all of baseball.     President Barak ObamaPresident Barak Obama will be spending some time in Palm Beach County this weekend and like many others who come and visit the area will look to get a round of golf in. People from all over the world come to South Florida to play our beautiful courses and the President of the United States is no different.

    The President is expected to play the Tom Fazio designed course at the Floridian Golf Club in Palm City. The par 72 course was opened in 1996 and originally designed by Jupiter Island resident and former PGA Tour pro Gary Player. It was redesigned and reconstructed by Fazio in 2011 and features a Butch Harmon School of Golf on the grounds. It is considered to the one of the country’s premier golf clubs.     The Honda Classic got a big boost in player notoriety as local residents Rory Mcllory and Tiger Woods both committed to playing in the event held at PGA National.


    Ranked number one and two in the world respectively, Mcllroy and Woods join a high profile field featuring other local residents such as Lee Westwood (Old Palm Resident), Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Keegan Bradley (Loxahatchee river residents), and many other of the top names on the PGA tour.


    Last year, Woods and Mcllroy battled it out on the final day as Woods shot an eight-under 62 including an eagle on 18 but came up two shots shy of the victory.
